VOLUNTEERING

We offer placements to gain experience in a busy office and a Law Centre environment for candidates wishing to volunteer in the following roles:

Legal volunteer
Reception & Administration volunteer

Candidates are expected to be available for two days each week for a period of 6 months. At the end of this period we review the placement together with the volunteer to assess future needs and expectations.

Volunteers have regular meetings with the volunteer co-ordinator and / or a supervising caseworker to discuss work, progress and any other issues or support needs. If you have any questions or would like an information pack email Dermot Morrow or phone him on 020 7697 1470.

Management Committee Volunteers

We also seek volunteers to sit on the Law Centre Management Committee. The governing body responsible for the work of the Law Centre is the Management Committee.

The Committee is elected annually at our AGM, and brings together a range of people with an interest in our work. These include lawyers, local residents and people from local community groups.

The Committee meets every 6 weeks, in the evening, at the Law Centre.

The meetings give an opportunity to review the work of the Centre, to plan for the future and to decide the way in which we should work.

The Committee is seeking to recruit new members in order to:

• increase active involvement in the work of the centre
• bring in new areas of expertise (for example, at the moment we do not have anyone with formal financial qualifications)
• ensure that the Centre reflects the local community, and that it benefits from a wide range of skills and experience.

Committee members are not paid, although direct out-of-pocket expenses can be claimed. Training is provided to assist Committee members in carrying out their duties, where appropriate.

If you would be interested in joining the Committee, download this info and contact Ruth Hayes, the Law Centre Manager, for an application pack. We are happy to arrange to meet with prospective members, and for you to observe a Committee meeting.
