Citizens Advice Bureau

Advice offered on money problems, benefits, employment, health, education, discrimination, home, housing, family, personal problems and consumer problems (inc cars and travel). Open Mon-Fri 10am -12pm for telephone advice and appointments or phone London Call (London wide telephone advice line) 0870 750 9000.

Community Legal Service
Need information on a legal problem? Want to know who and where your local adviser is? Does it cost anything and can you get financial help? Just Ask! is the website of the Community Legal Service.

Islington Voluntary Action Council
Islington's umbrella agency for the voluntary sector and the main provider of support for local voluntary organisations. Providing information, consultancy, training, advice and support to Islington's voluntary sector.

Law Centres Federation
The Law Centres Federation (LCF) acts as a co-ordinating body and the voice for Law Centres. Law Centres provide free legal advice and representation to the poorest and most disadvantaged members of society. The movement mainly practices in what is loosely termed Social Welfare Law. There are at present 52 Law Centres, 20 of which are in London.

Legal Services Commission

The Legal Services Commission has responsibility for two schemes - the civil scheme for funding civil cases as part of the Community Legal Service, the Criminal Defence Service which provides advice and representation for people facing criminal charges.


Mary Ward Legal Centre
Mary Ward give free advice and representation, especially in the areas of housing, debt and employment, to people who live or work in Greater London. They give priority to those who could not otherwise afford legal help. Also Housing advice drop-in sessions every Thursday afternoon.
