Podcasts from ILC

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Migrants Law Project, which is hosted by Islington law Centre, has just released the first in a series of podcasts, “It Can Be Done”, which shows the impact of co-ordinating efforts to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Episode One opens in 2015. We meet Kotaiba, a 15 year old Syrian refugee who finds himself in Calais looking for a safe way to reach his brother and sister in the UK. Meanwhile, across the Channel, two English observers watch in horror as Europe’s refugee crisis unfolds: asylum seekers and migrants living in makeshift camps with no sanitation or decent shelter, violence at borders, families drowning at sea. What if anything is to be done? And could there potentially be a legal solution?

The link is here – it’s a powerful story and we urge you to take a listen. https://themigrantslawproject.org/podcast/

Evening Clinic Supervisor

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Islington Law Centre is looking for a part-time supervising solicitor to run its advice sessions on a Monday and Wednesday evening and support and supervise the volunteer lawyers delivering the advice.

This role would suit someone looking for flexibility and variety in their work and with a passion for making legal advice accessible to everyone. The role is fourteen hours per week with seven of those hours required in sessions – the other seven can be worked flexibly.

The role is legal supervision with some feedback and support of volunteer lawyers who are seeing clients. There is administrative support for the Clinic and you’d be working for a well-respected organisation that has 47 years experience of ensuring access to justice for the people of Islington.

You’ll need at least two years post-qualification experience and some experience of general civil litigation and up-to-date knowledge of court procedures, including online developments. Ideally you would also have some experience of housing law but this is not essential.

The role’s actual salary is £15,512 (£38,799 pro rata) and there is a pension scheme and 25 days paid holiday (pro rata).

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Stuart Hearne or Matt Brown on 020 7288 7630 (main switchboard).

To apply, please fill out an application form and equal opportunity monitoring form and return to recruitment@islingtonlaw.org.uk. CVs are not accepted.
